An original painting of Barbaro winning the 132nd Kentucky Derby was auctioned on Ebay, with 100% of the final sale price supporting the NTRA Charities Barbaro Memorial Fund, which helps benefit horse health and safety, especially in funding important research and finding a cure for laminitis. Susan Sommer-Luarca's Barbaro portrait is an awesome 5-foot by 4-foot acrylic on canvas, painted at Churchill Downs and signed by Barbaro's jockey Edgar Prado. The auction became final on June 1st, and 32 bids had brought the funds raised by the painting to $14,400. See this painting of Barbaro to benefit charity here!
"I tried to capture on my canvas the beauty, strength and elegance of this magnificent Kentucky Derby champion," said Sommer-Luarca. "It was my desire to capture the magical essence of Barbaro and the magic of his movement. And I feel very fortunate that my artwork can support the NTRA Charities - Barbaro Memorial Fund."
