Many great horses have had Pennsylvania roots in recent history--Smarty Jones; Afleet Alex; and of course, Barbaro, whose owners reside in Pennsylvania. It's also where the 2006 Kentucky Derby-winning colt spent several months fighting for his life, aided by the skill and dedication of everyone at the University of Pennsylvania' New Bolton Center and the Widener Hospital for Large Animals. A few days after Barbaro's death a local songwriter recorded a tribute.
Musician Ken Buono, who records as The Tell Alls, recorded a Barbaro tribute song called "Wear your Crown", and has announced that together with his label Journeyman Records, they are in the planning stages of making the song available as a purchaseable download from the band's profile page on MySpace.com/TheTellAlls. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Barbaro Memorial Fund.

of The Tell Alls writes: "From the revenues generated, we will be donating significant portions towards the cause to help find a cure for the disease that ultimately ended Barbaro's courageous struggle for survival. Specifically, the recently established Barbaro Memorial Fund will be one cause targeted for donation. We feel honored to help contribute to this fund in his memory, the great champion that he was, through this charitable venture."
