The saddle cloth worn in the 2007 Florida Derby by Michael Matz trainee Chelokee is up for auction. Ebay seller spectacularbidsweb says the Florida Derby saddle cloths are among the rarest finds for Thoroughbred racing collectors. In nine years of buying race worn saddle cloths, the seller has only been able to acquire nine from the Florida Derby, compared to 25 from the world's most famous race, the Kentucky Derby. Curlin has arrived in Dubai to prepare for the $6 million Dubai World Cup. The Horse of the Year and 2007 Breeders Cup Classic champion toured the Nad Al Sheba race course on Wednesday. Jockey Carmen Rosas was on board under the guidance of Steve Asmussen's assistant trainer, Scott Blasi. |

After a year of ghoulish political wranglings over the future of racing in the Empire state, on February 13, New York's senate passed legislation that would keep the New York Racing Association franchise alive for the next 25 years. In the agreement reached with NYRA, the state will get ownership of Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga race courses. When there's no more room in hell, the politicians will go horse racing in New York. |

The Great Race Place will reopen Saturday after crucial track renovations, and in 2009 Santa Anita will become the first track to host the Breeders Cup two years in a row. Framework for a Thoroughbred racing franchise agreement is unveiled in New York; and Jonesboro is the high-weight in Saturday's running of the $100,000 Essex Handicap at Oaklawn. |
