Teuflesberg and Zanjero dueled in the stretch, but as they came to the wire so did the favorite Street Sense alongside intriguing newcomer Dominican. The photo would prove Dominican and jockey Rafael Bejarano the winners of the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky.
The 1 1/8 mile was completed at 1:51.33. Edgar Prado and Teuflesberg led the way, with the field conceding modest fractions. Teuflesberg wired the Southwest Stakes at oaklawn earlier this season, upsetting a then undefeated Hard Spun. Today he was challenged by the capable closer Zanjero. In the stretch Teuflesberg ended up traveling wide, causing Great Hunter to be taken up while Street Sense was not so easily denied. As Zanjero overcame Teuflesberg, and Street Sense both of them, Dominican made his path to a close victory from seven wide.
