Almost beating the track record at the Ocala Breeders Sale Championship on Monday, Buffalo Man won by 1 1/2 lengths. Jockey Edgar Prado said something compelling about the Triple-Crown-nominated son of El Prado after the race.
"Every time he felt a horse next to me, he showed another gear," said Prado, the 2006 Eclipse Award-winning jockey.
The victory in the 1 1/16 mile race was Buffalo Man's third consecutive, and it looks like the three-year-old colt is making a clear path for himself on the 2007 Derby trail. The final time was 1:44.40, just shy of the OBS track record of 1:44.20.
Buffalo Man's previous score was in the Spectacular Bid Stakes on January 7th at Gulfstream Park, and his winning streak began with the Storm Cat Stakes at Meadowlands last November. Trainer Cam Gamboloti--who trained 1985 Kentucky Derby winner and Horse of the Year Spend A Buck--says that the colt will run two races before the Kentucky Derby, but that the horse has a cough.
