 Under jockey Cornelio Velasquez, Fierce Wind stalked rivals and outran them to the wire to take the $200,000 Sam F Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. The Nick Zito trainee is now on a three-race winning streak with the ungraded win in his first stakes try. The final time for the 1 1/16 mile event was 1:44.13. Betting favorite and Delta jackpot co-winner Z Humor pressed the pace, but was unflattered when left behind in the stretch by Big Truck, Smooth Air, and Dynamic Wayne filling out the Superfecta.
