Rivals were flame-broiled as Pyro rocketed from last to first, and then some, in the Risen Star Stakes, February 9th--a highlight of Fair Grounds' Louisiana Derby Preview Day. Shaun Bridgmohan was on board the race favorite, Pyro--a winner by two lengths--for trainer Steve Asmussen, who filled out the Exacta with a rally from Z Fortune under Garrett Gomez. Visionaire, trained by Michael Matz, was third.

The final time for the 1 1/16 mile Risen Star Stakes for three-year-olds was 1:44.68. The Risen is the first Graded win for Pyro, who took second to 2007 Breeders Cup Juvenile winnerWar Pass in both previous graded attempts. The rivals are expected to meet again on the 2008 Kentucky Derby trail.
