Rags to Riches, the 3-2 favorite, dominated the 133rd running of the Kentucky Oaks for three-year-old fillies on Friday, with a four and one-quarter length win. The winning rider over a sloppy track was Garret Gomez, and the winning trainer gets the excata, ahving also saddled second-place Octave, ridden by John Velazquez. High Heels, trained by Cary Hartlage, was third. Completeing the superfecta is Dawn After Dawn, trained by Welsey Hawley, and the winning posts were 11-4-3-1. Rags to Riches finished the 1 1/8 mile contest in 1:49.99.
Dreaming of Anna grabbed the lead early, pressed by Mistical Plan, but tired in mid-stretch. Rags to Riches worked her way between foes from the start, patiently traveling behind five in front of her before the final turn, where she found Octave to her inside. Rags easily put away Octave in the stretch, but Octave was the best of the rest, finishing 3 1/2 lengths in front of third.
