2007 Lexington Stakes 40-1 longshot winner Slew's Tizzy went off as the 5-2 favorite for Saturday's Lone Star Derby. The Grade 3, $300,000, 1 1/16 mile race was run over a sloppy sealed track. With Robby Albarado on board for trainer Gregory Fox, Slew's Tizzy pressed the leaders and put away Mr. Nightlinger in the final furlong to get away with a 1 and 3/4 lengths win. Moyer's Pond was second, and Forty Grams finished in a dead-heat for third with Mr. Nightlinger. The final time was 1:45.49.
Also ran: Reporting for Duty, Takedown, Reata's Rocket, Slew by Slew, Taksent, Harrow Land.
An hour and 40 minutes before the Derby, a severe thunderstorm drenched Lone Star Park's track for nearly 45 minutes.
