With Javier Castellano on board, Strike A Deal upset Belmont Park's Straight Deal Stakes on Wednesday, beating runner-up Summer Doldrums by a nose. The son of Smart Strike, trained by Alan Goldberg, paid $9.90 to win. The final time for the $65,000 one mile turf race was 1:34.74.
Strike a Deal came from three wide to take the lead in the stretch. Summer Doldrums made a game bid to beat the leader, but just missed. Third-place Twilight Meteor was 2 1/4 lengths back.
Strike A Deal had not raced for five months. Last time out he won the $100,000 Laurel Futurity. The three-year-old colt now has three wins from five starts, all races over turf except his first.
