Your colt-crazed Thoroughbred daughters are safe for now. Handsome 2007 Breeders Cup Classic champion -and likely Horse of the Year- Curlin has not joined the long line to the breeding shed so far. Instead, the phenomenal horse who won last year's Preakness Stakes has been sharpening up his form, turning in each work faster than the other.
The son of Smart Strike is just getting warmed up. Saturday, January 12 at Fair Grounds, Curlin put away four furlongs in 51.20 seconds, an improvement over his first work of the year on January 6 over the same distance in 53.40. The colt's next start is undetermined, but his next exercise is expected around January 18.

In 2007, Curlin made his official debut, winning his maiden at three-years-old. Originally trained by Helen Pitts, the colt quickly became a sensation under the guidance of trainer Steve Asmussen; winning the Arkansas Derby, placing third to Street Sense in the Kentucky Derby, defeating the same foe in a thrilling Preakness Stakes, and finishing second to Rags to Riches in an unforgettable Belmont Stakes.
