After a year of ghoulish political wranglings over the future of racing in the Empire state, on February 13, New York's senate passed legislation that would keep the New York Racing Association franchise alive for the next 25 years. In the agreement reached with NYRA, the state will get ownership of Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga race courses. When there's no more room in hell, the politicians will go horse racing in New York.
The legislation also allows video lottery terminals to be installed at Aqueduct.
