Lael Stable's Showing Up, trained by Barclay Tagg, will not be running for at least three months due to the suspensory ligament in his left front leg developing a tear. The son of Strategic Mission was introduced as a deadly newcomer on the 2006 Derby trail, winning his first three starts, including the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland, before finishing sixth to stablemate Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby itself.
Showing Up eventually became one of the top turf horses after winning the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington, the Colonial Turf Cup at Colonial Downs, the Hollywood Derby at Hollywood park, and the Jamaica Breeders Cup Handicap at Belmont Park. His four-year-old campiagn began this year with a second to Kip Deville in the Grade 2 Maker's Mark Mile.
