Court Vision, Anak Nakal, Monba dip into Fountain of Youth Print E-mail

A field of twelve is set for  the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes this Sunday, February 24 at Gulfstream Park. The nine-furlong, $350,000 contest for three-year-olds on the 2008 Derby trail looks like a tough one with contenders like Court Vision, Anak Nakal, and Monba, but another horse actually has the highest Beyer of 93 (insert suspenseful music here)...

That horse is Kentucky Bear, trained by Reade Baker. The 93 Beyer was earned from a 6 1/2 length victory in a one-mile Maiden Special Weight. Yeah... We're gonna want to see some replays and PPs of this guy aren't we? Kentucky Bear earned a 102 Speed Rating for his performance. Here's some perspective, last year, Curlin earned a 101 Speed Rating in his impressive Maiden win.

A late surprise for the Fountain of Youth is that Z Humor was supplemented to the race. The Delta Jackpot dead heat co-winner will be returning to the Gulfstream track only eight days after trying the Sam Davis Stakes, where he finished out of the money. His lack of performance in the Sam Davis is being blamed on acting up in the paddock and washing out.

Anak Nakal has a 3-2-1-0 record. In his last race of 2007 he earned a victory in the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club. His trainer is Nick Zito.

Court Vision holds a 4-3-1-0 race record. He has graded wins in the Grade II Remsen, and Grade III Iroquois. Bill Mott trains the colt.

Monba is 3-2-0-0, finishing fourth in the CashCall Futurity. Monba, a stretch runner, is trained by Todd Pletcher.

Among other 2008 Fountain of Youth Stakes contenders are Cool Coal Man, Adriano, and Golden Spikes.
