Could Pyro roast a weenie so hot that even he couldn't eat it? The answer may or may not be revealed this weekend as the run-up to the 134th Kentucky Derby charges on with the Grade III, 8 1/2 furlong, Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds. Steve Asmussen, trainer of reigning Horse of the Year Curlin, will hope to advance Pyro on this year's Derby Trail, beginning with the $300,000 Risen Star, Saturday, February 9. The Risen will also be the three-year-old debut of Pyro, who last finished second to War Pass in the 2007 Breeders Cup Juvenile.
Asmussen has also entered Z Fortune, a horse with a three-for-three record which includes the Lecomte Stakes, in the Risen Star.
