A field of eight is set for the Grade 2 $300,000 Ohio Derby, run at 1 1/8 miles, this Saturday, June 2nd. Gotham Stakes and Illinois Derby winner Cowtown Cat, trained by Todd Pletcher, is the likely morning-line favorite. Pletcher's mentor, D. Wayne Lukas, entered Starbase. Other contenders include Lone Star Derby runner-up Moyer's Pond, trained by Tony Reinstedler; Forty Grams, trained by Steve Asmussen; and Officer Rocket, trained by Bob Holthus.
The Ohio Derby will be the ninth on a ten-race card, with the Ohio Derby to go off at 5:33 PM (Central).
Works
Starbase worked a half mile in :47 and 3/5 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Moyer's Pond worked a half-mile in 49 seconds.
Danny Sez worked six furlongs in 1:11 4/5 at Thistledown on May 21st for local trainer Don Rowe.
