Pyro's next start is the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on Saturday, March 8 at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. A field of nine has been set. Winner of the 2008 Risen Star Stakes, Pyro remains a leading possible contender for Kentucky Derby 134. Trainer Steve Asmussen will also enter a horse for owner Ahmed Zayat in the Louisiana Derby, J Be K (the Jockey Club must have refused all his "Z" names that day). Last year's Hopeful Stakes winner, Majestic Warrior, will also attempt to take the LA Derby, for trainer Bill Mott.
Also keeping the Louisiana Derby interesting is Yankee Bravo, trying the Fair Grounds dirt track after winning the California Derby on Golden Gate's synthetic surface. Trained by Patrick Gallagher, Yankee Bravo is undefeated in three starts, but unproven on real dirt.
