Street Sense, winner of last year's Breeders Cup Juvenile, and this year's Tampa Bay Derby, is the morning line favorite in a field of seven for the 1 1/8 mile Grade 2 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland race course. Regular rider Calvin Borel will be on the mount. Teuflesberg, upset winner of the Southwest Stakes, will be piloted by Edgar Prado; and Corey Nakatani will be on board Great Hunter again.
Times Squared is back on Keeneland's polytrack already. After winning against maidens here on April 6th he'll try the Blue Grass Stakes this Saturday.
Likewise, Love Dubai, who just made his American debut in the Illinois Derby and finished ninth last weekend, is also running in the Blue Grass Stakes. The attraction to the Arkansas Derby for his Connections is apparently that the horse won three consecutive races in England over a synthetic surface such as Keeneland's. The owner's site explains that with too many factors to overcome, jockey Miguel Mena let the horse run the Illinois Derby as a "schooling" excercise. [Love Dubai's stats at Equirace]
If Love Dubai sitting at the back of the classroom shooting spitballs at everyone doesn't sound like a good bet for going to the head of the class, Zanjero has finished second or third in all of his graded starts.
The Blue Grass Stakes was wired last year by Bob Baffert's run away trainee Sinister Minister, with Garret Gomez riding.
