 Memorial Day: Hollywood Park's Lakeside Turf Course hosts the $300,000 Shoemaker Breeders Cup Mile. Two horses wil try for their fourth consecutive win, including four-year-old Kip Deville and nine-year-old The Tin Man
Turf specialist Kip Deville, trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., won his last two races by a only a neck, beating Showing Up in Keeneland's Grade 2 Maker's Mark Mile on April 13, and Bayeaux in theGrade 1 Frank Kilroe Handicap at Santa Anita on March 3rd. The Kilroe was put away in a fast 1:33.88. Richard Migliore will be on the Mount for the third time in the roan colt's last four starts.
Richard Mandella trainee The Tin Man is making his 2007 debut. He finished 2006 as one of the top turf horses, completing the year with a three-race winning streak. His only loss out of five starts last year was a second to David Junior in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free. The Tin Man won two Grade 2's and two Grade 1's in 2006, and has 12 wins from a lifetime 27 starts, but hasn't raced since September 30. Most of the gelding's wins have been accomplished in front-running style at longer distances. Regular rider Victor Espinoza will be up.
