A grade 2 race for three-year-olds that could get them swiftly on their way to this year's Kentucky Derby, the 1 1/16 mile Robert B. Lewis will run this Saturday at Santa Anita. Doug O'Neill will run Triple Crown nominee Great Hunter, and Bob Baffert will run a Sweetsouthernsaint gelding.
After four unimpressive starts, Florida-bred Saint Paul was given blinkers by previous trainer Paul Maxwell, and won his one-mile maiden by 8 1/4 lengths. Two offers were made by Bob Baffert to get the horse for Mike Bello, owner of Megahertz. Doug O'Neill's Great Hunter has not raced since placing third to Street Sense in the Breeders Cup Juvenile last season, but as the only pre-existing Triple Crown nominee among the field, he should be the favorite. Bob Baffert willalso run Bluegrass Stakes winner Sinister Minister on Saturday (race 2) in an Allowance Optional.Bob Baffert PPs are available at BobBaffert.com. Reports online Bloodhorse
