California Horse of the Year Lava Man, whose only loss in 2006 was away from his home state in the Breeders Cup Classic, is out to prove he can win outside California--halfway across the world in Dubai's $5,000,000 Duty Free. The Group 1 event on turf is run at just under 1 1/8 miles. English Channel and Miesque's Approval have also arrived in Dubai to test the world's best grass runners at Nad Al Sheba.
Other international contenders include French Derby winner Best Name; Japanese Group 1 winner Daiwa Major; Australia's Pompeii Ruler; and Mystical, an Indian horse who has won 16 of 19 starts, and is the first Indian horse to win in Dubai.
