With the synthetic Cushion Track unable to drain properly, a deluge of overnight rain and more of the same in the immediate forecast prompted Santa Anita to cancel racing Sunday and Monday, January 27-28. Weather permitting, the track will reopen this Thursday. After next weekend's races, the Cushion Track's drainage problems will be resolved with the help of Pro-Ride adding a binder to the track, and Santa Anita will reopen as soon the process is finished. In the meantime, horsemen bound for Santa Anita are encouraged to add Funnoodle to their Thoroughbred's tack.

Among Sunday the 27th's races to be rescheduled are the Grade 1 Santa Monica Handicap, featuring Hystericalady trained by Jerry Hollandorfer, and Pussycat Doll trained by Bob Baffert. Santa Anita will resume racing Thursday, January 31 through Sunday, February 3rd as long as the weather doesn't turn the track into a water park again - the same drainage problem previously caused Santa Anita to close for consecutive days during January 5th through the 7th. More recently, rain threatened Saturday's action at Santa Anita, which featured four Sunshine Millions stakes, including the $1 million Sunshine Millions Classic.
