Two-continent Horse of the Year Invasor won the Group 1 Dubai World Cup --the world's richest race at $6,000,000-- by two lengths, avenging his only career loss, which came in last year's UAE Derby against Discreet Cat. Premium Tap was second, with the rest of the field far behind, and Discreet Cat finding his first career defeat in last place.
The 1 1/4 mile race was won in 1:59.97 --the second fastest time in history for 2,000 meters. Invasor and Discreet Cat both went off at even odds, Premium Tap at 9-2. Bullish Luck was third. The winner paid four dollars.
Invasor, owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Shadwell Stables, is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, and his jockey is Fernando Jara. Argentine-bred, Invasor won Urugay's Triple Crown and Horse of the Year honors before his 2006 campaign in America. His only defeat that year was by finishing off the board in Dubai, at the UAE Derby won by Discreet Cat. Winning the Breeders Cup Classic over Bernardini and Premium Tap last season, Invasor captured the 2006 Horse of the Year honors from the American-based Eclipse Awards.
