Todd Pletcher won his fifth straight Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream park on Saturday when king of the Roxy and Edgar Prado rallied and drove to a clear 2 1/4 length victory over Bold Start. The race is run at 7 1/2 furlongs.
King of the Roxy won the Grade 2 Futurity at Belmont last September, but finished eighth in the Breeders Cup Juvenile last November.
Second place Bold Start is trained by Kenneth McPeek, and it was 5 1/2 lengths back to third place, where Pletcher's go-to man John Velazquez and his mount of choice Out of Gwedda finished a neck in front of Reata's Rocket.
The previous four runnings of the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes were won by trainer Todd Pletcher with jockey John Velazquez on board all of those same winners.
Out of Gwedda won his first two starts last year, but took second to Buffalo Man in the Spectacular Bid Stakes this year. Finally, Pletcher Saddled a third horse for this race, Air Lord ridden by Christopher DeCarlo. Air Lord took second to Adore the Gold in last October's Dover Stakes at Delaware Park. He finished fifth this time.
